Rules and Points

Adventure Race Rules:

At Grass Roots Racing we try to keep the rules short and sweet. Here are the (6) rules that apply to all of our adventure races.

1) Racers are to be Self sufficient and cannot ask for any outside help including--but not limited to--hydration, food, mechanical help or navigational help. However, racers are encouraged to ask for or give all of these forms of help to other racers.
2) Racers are to be self-propelled at all times, and cannot use any motorized devices to aid in their travel unless instructed to do so.
3) Adventure races are to be competed by teams of two (any gender) and racers must travel within 50 meters of each other and complete all aspects of the course together. (Does not apply to Off-road triathlons.)
4) Bike helmets must be worn and securely fastened when racers are traveling with bikes.
5) PFD’s must be worn and securely fastened when racers are traveling on, or in, water. (Does not apply to Off-road triathlons.)
6) Racers must respect volunteers, race staff, and the environment or risk disqualification.
7) No pre-riding or pre-running of any adventure race course. (Does not apply to off-road triathlons.)
8) No unauthorized electronics may be used during an adventure race. This includes GPS units, and walkie-talkies.

Any observed violation of these rules must be reported to race staff at least 30 minutes before the scheduled awards ceremony to be considered for disqualification purposes.

The G.R.A.S.S. rules—which apply only to those racers interested in competing in the entire Grass Roots Adventure Sprint Series—can get more complicated. However they are designed to make the series as interesting as possible and to encourage racers to enter as many races as possible. They are also designed to encourage our racers to find us more participants since the points earned in a race are dependent upon the number of racers in the race.

Races #1 - #3 —Teams will receive points as follows:

1st place = number of finishers (i.e. individual racers)
2nd place = no. of finishers-2 (1 team of two)
3rd place = no. of finishers-4 (2 teams of two) etc.
Last place = 2 points

Races #1 - #3 —Teams will receive points as follows:

1st place = number of finishers (i.e. individual racers)
2nd place = no. of finishers-2 (1 team of two)
3rd place = no. of finishers-4 (2 teams of two) etc.
Last place = 2 points

Race #4 (The NSF) — will reward double points as follows:

1st place = (number of finishers) x 2
2nd place = (no. of finishers-2) x 2
3rd place = (no. of finishers-4) x 2
etc.
Last place = (2 points) x 2

VO2 Test at Venture Outdoors Fest and TURFF—The Urban Race For Fifty

Teams may substitute the points earned at these two races for any one of the first three races. This is designed to benefit those with scheduling conflicts or those that had a bad performance in a single race.

Points are awarded as follows: Each of these events will be a Rogaine where teams will have 3 hours to collect a maximum of 50 points. Series Points earned will be:
1st Place = Value of points earned by first place in substituting race
2nd Place = Value of points earned by second place in substituting race
3rd Place = Value of points earned by third place in substituting race
Etc.

Teammate Substitutions

Due to the race substitution described above, only one teammate substitution is allowed in the four race series for the points earned to apply to that team’s series total. Teams may substitute more frequently but will be creating a new team and new point total. “Team” is considered to be the two names entered on the roster presented to GRR at the first race of the season.
