WAR Description
October 27-28 WAR24, 24 Hour Warren Adventure Race, Warren, PA
This race is the newest addition to the Grass Roots Racing schedule. It is still in final production, and entry for 2010 is limited to the first 30 teams of two and/or relays teams of up to six that send entry fees. Entry fees are due May 15, 2010. All entries received after the initial 30 will be returned un-cashed. All accepted entries are transferable to other teams for 2010 race but are not refundable, nor transferable to 2011 race. Teams of two are welcome, and encouraged, to race together to form teams of four or more. Approximate race distances: Biking-50-60 miles, Trekking 10-13 miles, Paddling-11-15 miles. This race will incorporate navigation into each leg of the event. Teams should be familiar with a map and compass and attend a pre-race navigation clinic. Relays will consist of a maximum of 6 people, two trekkers, two mountain bikers, and two paddlers. Relay teams will be responsible for moving all racers and gear to check points and all racers should be prepared to be with your team mates for the entire race as there are multiple legs of each discipline. 2 person canoes will be provided and transported by race management. Camping area will be available at the overnight TA. Racers will be responsible for bringing all camping gear. Teams of Two will be permitted to have one gear box that race organizers will transport to the overnight TA. Race order, TA locations, gear box drops, etc will be disclosed at Map Distribution and navigation clinic. This is a self-supporting race; all food/drink should be supplied by each team. Race management will not be supplying support along the course. Use the mail-in registration form to register now! Race day procedure (tentative): GEAR REQUIREMENTS for WAR24 Gear list is minimal, and we hope to keep it that way. However it is the racers duty to contact race organizers for a complete and updated gear list before race day. Two Person Teams-Per Racer Gear: Rescue Whistle, Emergency Space Blanket, Headlamp w/ 9 hrs burn time, extra batteries, Knife w/ 3 blade, Waterproof Jacket (Gortex or nylon), water carrying capacity of 70 ounces, Backpack/Camelback, Mountain bike, Mountain bike helmet (IMBA approved), Front mounted bike light w/ 9 hrs burn time, Rear mounted red flashing bike light, (6) glow sticks Team Gear: Compass, Waterproof map case, First Aid kit, Bilge Pump and/or Bailer for each boat, 60 Throw line, Bike repair kit, (2) extra tubes, pump and/or CO2 cartridges Gear List for Relays: 2 Person Trekking Rescue Whistle, Emergency Space Blanket, Headlamp w/ 9 hrs burn time, extra batteries, Knife w/ 3 blade, Waterproof Jacket (Gortex or nylon), water carrying capacity of 70 ounces, Per Team Gear Compass, Waterproof Map Case, First Aid kit, Backpack/Camelback 2 Person Mountain Biking Rescue Whistle, Emergency Space Blanket, Headlamp w/ 9 hrs burn time, extra batteries, Knife w/ 3 blade, Waterproof Jacket (Gortex or nylon), water carrying capacity of 70 ounces, Mountain Bike, Mountain Bike Helmet (IMBA approved), Front Mounted Bike Light w/ 9 hrs burn time, Rear Mounted, red flashing bike light Per Team Gear Compass, Waterproof Map Case, First Aid kit, bike Repair kit, two extra tubes, pump/CO2 cartridges, Backpack/Camelback 2 Person Paddling Rescue Whistle, Emergency Space Blanket, Headlamp w/ 9 hrs burn time, extra batteries, Knife w/ 3 blade, Waterproof Jacket (Gortex or nylon), water carrying capacity of 70 ounces Per Team Gear Compass, Waterproof Map Case, First Aid kit, Bilge Pump/Bailer for each boat, 60 Throw line, Backpack/Camelback, 6 glow sticks Relays can share one pack with all per person gear in it to eliminate all racers from having to supply required gear. There will be gear checks at certain TAs. You will not be permitted to continue the race without required gear. Required gear is a bare minimum of gear we require, but not all inclusive.
