Grass Roots Racing is dedicated to increasing the understanding, appreciation, and use of the natural environment through the medium of adventure racing.

About Us

Grass Roots Racing is a collaborative effort of outdoor enthusiasts. With over 30 years combined racing experience, and over 20 years combined race directing and course design, we pride ourselves in producing events that are challenging to seasoned racers while providing newcomers with the opportunity for a great first time experience.

Staff

Frank Eyth: Race Director

Frank has extensive experience racing at the sprint distance, as well as stage and expedition length races. He has been racing competitively in A/R since 1995, but started well before that in competitive skiing, cross-country, road running, triathlon, and road biking. He competed in the Hi-Tec Sprint Series as the captain for Team dsports.com (Dick’s Sporting Goods) in 2000 and in the Balance Bar Series for Team TIMEX in 2001. He has also competed in the Mild Seven Outdoor Quest in LiJiang, China, the Hidalgo Extreme in Mexico, the Expedition BVI in the British Virgin Islands, and Primal Quest in both Colorado and Utah.

This is Frank’s third year producing races as Grass Roots, but he has been involved in race production and course design for over six years.

Bethann Scott: Race Director

Bethann is an avid endurance athlete. She has raced competitively in triathlon, duathlon and adventure racing for 10 years. This is her third year producing races as Grass Roots, but she has been involved in race production and management for over 6 years with her previous company—where she gained valuable experience managing road running, duathlon, triathlon and adventure races.

Athletic Achievements: Duathlon/Triathlon/Running 3:09 PR Boston Marathon Four Time member of Duathlon Team USA Mid-Atlantic Long Distance Female Triathlon Champion, Finisher of 2005 Coast to Coast Michigan Adventure Race with Team Curelukemia 1st Place—Krista Griesacker Memorial Adventure Race where she qualified for the 2005 USARA National Championship in Tampa Florida—which she raced with Toby and Frank. In 2006 she raced to the first female team position in the Cap City sprint race in Harrisburg and finished second overall at Buff Betty Cunningham Falls, Md.

Toby Angove: Course and Navigation Consultant

As a soldier, Toby knows the true meaning of adventure and brings this to his racing, and race course design. He has been involved in AR since 1995 when he traveled the United States racing in the Hi-Tec Adventure Series with Team FogDog. He has also competed in the Mild Seven Outdoor Quest in LiJiang, China, the Hidalgo Extreme in Mexico, the 2006 Jay Challenge in Vermont (which he won) and Primal Quest in both Colorado and Utah.

This is Toby’s third year of involvement with Grass Roots, but he has been involved in race production and course design for well over seven years. Toby’s involvement will be sporadic this year as he is training for an adventure of a lifetime with the Army as he prepares to go over seas next winter.

Andrew Wahila: Intern

Andy is a recent graduate student in the Sport Management program at Ithaca College in New York. He joined the Grass Roots Racing team as an intern for the '07 season and will be returning periodically for ’08. Andy will be spending late winter through the spring running across this country in his biggest adventure to date. His “National Run” can be monitored on his website at www.nationrun.com .

Chuck Kozora: Race Photographer and Web Design

Chuck is a freelance photographer, chemist, and web developer who has partnered with Grass Roots Racing to photo-document the 2007 race series. When not photographing the numerous joys of adventure racing, Chuck is an avid cyclist and espresso junkie.

Athletic Accomplishments: 1996, 1997, and 1999 completion of 24 hours of Canaan held in Canaan Valley, WV

Jeremy Long: Backup for Website updates

Jeremy is a freelance Web designer who is currently assisting with the web site.

You may see him around town biking to work, trying to avoid cars making Pittsburgh lefts.
